Your Child’s Vision

Did you know that 80% of learning is based on vision? Good vision is essential to your child’s ability to succeed in the classroom. Clear, crisp vision for children is instrumental in their learning and development process.

Taking your child for a comprehensive eye exam is one of the most important things you can do as a parent. We can successfully test your child’s vision even if he or she doesn’t yet recognize the alphabet. We use animals, shapes, and other child friendly ways to evaluate vision and overall eye health. The AOA recommends your child receive their first eye screening between the ages of 6 and 12 months. While vision development and eye health problems are uncommon at this age, issues are much easier to correct if treatment begins early.

After that, we recommend a comprehensive eye examination for every child beginning at age three, and sooner if problems are suspected. For school-aged children, we recommend an eye exam for your child every year prior to school starting.  Children who need eyeglasses or contact lenses may need to be examined more frequently.
